When Sherlock pulls out his John File in TSoT, there are many interesting papers. However, I’ve only managed to take a readable screencap of only one of them. There’s been a surprise, though, Here is John’s signature, I’m sure some of you wondered what it might look like.

GUYS. OKAY.

John’s signature is not all we get here. We also see that he is signing to consent to organ donation. But also: he is refusing to sign consent for a blood donor program, and we see that he has not donated blood in the past 3 years. Americans might know where I’m going with this already: in the US, men who have sex with men (MSM) are banned from donating blood. What about in the UK though? Per the NHS, Men cannot donate blood if they have had sex with another man in the past 12 months.

Isn’t that interesting.

My mind is going into overdrive on this one. Sherlock would have needed quite a lot of blood, and while that wouldn’t have gone straight to him of course ( processing time), it is common where I am at for people to do donor drives in the name of a specific injured person ( particularly if they were affiliated with an organization, like, oh I don’t know…the police?).
Now imagine…what if John can’t join it. He isn’t squeamish, everyone knows that. He loves Sherlock to the end of the earth and everyone knows it. He also is not likely to lie about this ( strong moral principal).
Sherlock would possibly even need more blood after going back to the hospital a second time with the weight of it being *his wife* that shot him pulling on his conscience.
Still can’t donate.
